YOGA ALIGN & ADJUST 20 HRS YACEP

17 October 2026 Jake Duckworth

This 20hr Yoga Alliance certified workshop explores alignment and adjustments as inseparable elements of intelligent practice. A clear understanding of alignment naturally informs skilful, compassionate adjustments—whether working within your own body or supporting others.

Rooted primarily in the Ashtanga Vinyasa system, and enriched by the precision of Iyengar methodology alongside principles from strength training and functional movement, this workshop offers a deeply practical and embodied approach to yoga. Here, stability becomes the foundation for freedom, and precision creates the conditions for possibility.

Across two days, you will develop a nuanced understanding of how the body organises itself in space. A central principle we will explore is the art of anchoring: stabilising one part of the body to allow another to extend, rotate, or release with greater intelligence and ease. This approach is applied across standing and seated postures, supporting safe, efficient, and expansive movement.

The workshop also introduces a fascial perspective, inviting you to move beyond isolated muscles and instead work with the body as an interconnected system of tension, support, and transmission. Rather than forcing depth, the focus shifts toward creating integrated length, continuity, and elasticity throughout the body.

Alongside structural work, we will explore the Tristāna method—breath, posture, and gaze—as a unified field of attention. Adjustments are approached not as corrections, but as a form of dialogue: a responsive, sensitive interaction between teacher and practitioner. You will learn how to adjust through listening—developing the ability to feel timing, resistance, breath, and intention—so that touch supports rather than interrupts the practitioner’s internal experience.

Day 1: Standing Postures (Utthiṣṭha Sthitiḥ)

Focusing on foundational standing sequences, including Sūrya Namaskāra A & B and key postures from the Ashtanga tradition, this day explores:

Rooting, rebound, and directional extension
Pelvic positioning and spinal organisation
Intelligent use of hands and feet
Fascia lines in standing work
Introduction to partner and self-adjustments
Synchronising breath, gaze, and movement
Developing sensitivity and presence in hands-on work

Day 2: Seated Postures (Upaviṣṭha Sthitiḥ)

Working through seated and forward extension postures, this day focuses on:

Grounding before folding
Length before depth in forward extensions
“Expanding to the west” rather than collapsing
The integration of breath, bandha, and directional movement
Use of props for support and refinement
Fascial pathways in seated practice
Refining adjustments with timing, sensitivity, and continuity

Throughout the weekend, you will build confidence in both giving and receiving adjustments, cultivating a deeper awareness of how to support practice in a way that is safe, intelligent, and responsive.

This workshop is open to dedicated practitioners and teachers who wish to deepen their understanding of alignment, refine their touch, and develop a more intuitive, embodied approach to assisting.
